During the event showcasing the SISS universe at the Conservatorio “F.A. Bonporti” in Trento, we had the opportunity to interview Tim Seger, the winner of CAT A – EXPERIMENTAL VISIONARIES.

Born in 1992, he is a German multimedia artist who works across the interconnected fields of cinema, sound and performance. In his work, he explores the auditory world that surrounds us in everyday life and its emotional influence on us. He studied at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Offenbach, graduating in 2023 with his short film performance Drumboat.
His performances have been presented at the Frankfurter Kunstverein and the Naxoshallen in Frankfurt, as well as at German and international film festivals.

When did you realise that audiovisual media was the path for you?
«I started to get into audiovisual media from a film perspective while I was studying at art school.
After shooting short films for several years I realized they all have musical ideas as a starting point. More than narratives or characters I was interested in things like rhythm or movement. After leaving university I realized I want to put these musical elements into the centre of attention and therefore started to experiment with sound happening live on stage».

How long have you been involved in this artistic field?
«I´ve been doing film formats for about ten years, for 3 years I combine them with live performances».

Is this the first competition you have entered, or have you participated in others?
«Yuling Chiu, Max Mahlert and me have shown CAR in other places like Produktionshaus Naxos Frankfurt, or Parkside Studios Offenbach».

Where does your inspiration come from/what is your creative philosophy?
«I think Inspiration happens during day to day routines.
I´m interested in the sound world that surrounds us, machines, wind, nature, you name it. I believe that if we choose to listen to these surroundings, they have their own stories to tell. In my projects I try to highlight them, to see what happens if we put them in a different co ntext, basically we experiment and try to follow what’s fun to play with».

What do you see in your future?
«I don’t know, Experimentation. Freedom hopefully. Playing around with sound / image and performance. I’m not a big fan of the 5 year plan so I guess there will hopefully some surprises on the way».
