The short documentary Naples, a French film likely dating from 1927, is a work about which no information survives beyond what is preserved on the film itself. It features a series of shots of Naples at the time, including the modern Santa Lucia district as well as streets and squares in older and poorer areas, sulfur fields, rowing boats on the sea, and the smoking Mount Vesuvius. The footage also appears to include a wedding, presumably between Prince Amedeo of Aosta and Anna d’Orléans.

Drawing on themes of soundscape and archival practice, this project seeks to align with what are imagined to be the original intentions of the filmmaker – possibly also the camera operator – while simultaneously offering a creative reinterpretation that brings additional perspectives on Neapolitan life in the 1920s. Using archival sound recordings alongside more recent, digitally altered ones, the project reconstructs soundscapes intended to evoke those that might have been heard at the original filming locations. These are interwoven with excerpts from prose and poetry of the same period, by authors such as Matilde Serao and Walter Benjamin , as well as traditional folk songs. The literary material is performed and sung aloud by Neapolitan actress Anna Luigia Autiero, currently based in Bologna.
